Guided Walking Tours in Oxford

A guided walking tour within the heart of the old walled city of Oxford, learning about some of the 38 colleges founded from the mid 13th century and the most famous town and university buildings. These include the Clarendon Building (built to house the Oxford University Press), Schools Quad (the 17th century university campus and entrance to the early lecture hall and library), Radcliffe Square, dominated by the 18th century Radcliffe Camera (now part of the Bodleian Library) and University Church. We will also visit the Divinity School - a magnificent interior and the oldest purpose-built university building in Oxford, dating from the early 15th century* (*Available Sunday only). The development of the university within the city, the story of its 800 year history and how it works today will be told as you pass by these buildings.

Guided Tour to Motorsport Valley from Oxford

Motorsport Valley was first brought to academic and policy attention in the early nineties (see Henry et al., 1996) and became an iconic cluster of (masculinist) economic geography textbooks. Twenty years on the cluster continues to grow and remains the premier node of a global production system now incorporating niche vehicles, performance engineering and leading-edge industrial capability in low carbon technologies. The day trip by coach will begin at 9:30 and will visit Silverstone Circuit where it all began – with racing by the legendary 750 Club taking place. Within the state of the art conference facility, an introductory lecture on Motorsport Valley will be followed by a presentation by government on UK cluster development policy around motorsport and the resurgent UK automotive industry. Lunch will be accompanied by ‘live’ tours of the Control Centre and F1 Podium before a short factory tour of one of the leading motorsport constructors, returning to Oxford for 4.00pm.
Cost - £90 per person. Includes transportation to and from Silverstone, guided tour and lunch.
Available on Sunday 23 August 2015 - 9:00-16:00
