Maryann P. Feldman is the Heninger Distinguished Professor in the Department of Public Policy at the University of North Carolina, Professor of Finance at Kenan-Flagler Business School and Research Director at the CREATE Prosperity Center at the UNC Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise. She is an editor of the Oxford Handbook of Economic Geography, which is in its second edition. Dr. Feldman is also an editor of Research Policy, a multi-disciplinary journal devoted to analyzing, understanding and effectively responding to the economic, policy, management, organizational, environmental and other challenges posed by innovation, technology, R&D and science. Her research and teaching interests focus on innovation, the commercialization of academic research and the factors that promote technological change and economic growth. Dr. Feldman was the winner of the 2013 Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research for her contributions to the study of the geography of innovation and the role of entrepreneurial activity in the formation of regional industry clusters. From 2014-2017, Dr. Feldman was the Director of the National Science Foundation’s Science of Science and Innovation Policy (SciSIP) Program and chaired an inter-agency working group on Science Policy. She received the 2018 Technology & Innovation Management Distinguished Scholar Award from the Academy of Management for her career achievements. She is currently co-charing the National Institutes of Science, Engineering and Medicine’s Congressionally mandated study of the U.S. Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program.
