GCEG Committee Statement
GCEG Committee Statement, distributed on 31 July 2018:
We are very pleased to inform you that a standing committee of the Global Conference on Economic Geography ("GCEG Committee") has been established and that the following governance and principles of all future GCEG events were announced at the Cologne GCEG (2018) gala dinner. We expect that these will serve our community well in future.
- GCEG Committee
- Comprising (1) one member from each of the past GCEG organising committees AND (2) the chairperson of the incoming GCEG (e.g. Dublin 2022). The current committee members are listed at the end of this email.
- Each member of the GCEG Committee must be a tenured or permanent faculty member in an academic institution.
- Chair: to be elected from among existing members excluding the member organizing the incoming GCEG; chair to be rotated after each GCEG.
- Mandate: preparing and announcing Call for Proposals and selecting and ensuring broad implementation of each GCEG.
- GCEG Principles
- Broad-based support from home institution(s) and national geographical communities/societies
- Commitment to the global scope and diversity of the conference.
- Commitment to supporting research students and early career faculty.
- Local organizing committee should have a fair balance of members by gender and career stage.
- GCEG Timetable
- Call for Proposals (CfP): Call for Proposals (CfP): to be send out about 8 months before each GCEG (e.g. in November 2021 before the June 2022 Dublin GCEG), with a proposal submission deadline of 3 months before the GCEG event.
- Frequency of GCEG: every 3 years.

Call for Bids to Host the 7th GCEG Event
Dear Colleagues,
With the 6th Global Conference on Economic Geography (GCEG) to be held in Dublin (7-10th of June, 2022; https://www.gceg.org/) approaching, we would like to start looking for colleagues and institutions interested in hosting the 7th GCEG in 2025 (or in 2026 at thelatest).
Potential candidates are invited to send us a short proposal (3-4 pages) which would include the following:
- A statement of motivation: Why are you interested in hosting the Conference and the main theme you would like to dedicate the Conference to.
- A planned composition of your local organizing committee, with a view for balance and diversity, including in terms of gender and career stage. At this point, it will be good if you have confirmed several key local co-organizers or committee members.
- Evidence of support from your home institution/s (e.g. your faculty or university).
- Evidence of support from external institutions (e.g. geographical and related societies).
- A description of basic infrastructural resources (e.g. the planned conference venue).
- A brief description of a financial plan, including costs, revenues and sponsorship opportunities.
- A description on how you would promote the global scope and diversity of the conference, including planned support for research students and early career researchers.
